Novel MRI-derived MS subtypes show differences in immunological blood biomarker profiles

Three novel MRI-based subtypes of multiple sclerosis (MS) identified in a machine learning model show important differences in terms of immunological changes in the blood, according to researchers in the UK.

“MRI-based disease subtypes using machine learning (Subtype and Staging Inference [SuStaIn]) have been identified, but it is unknown whether these subtypes relate to the inflammatory process present in MS,” the researchers noted.
