Midbrain degeneration in progressive supranuclear palsy is not correlated with square wave jerks

Although midbrain degeneration is recognized as a hallmark of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), research presented at EAN 2019 finds no correlation between midbrain changes and square wave jerks (SWJs), another common feature of the disease. Rather, reduction in the volume of cortical structures is suggested to be part of the underling pathophysiology of SWJs.
