Meta-analysis suggests antihypertensive treatment may reduce dementia risk

Blood pressure (BP) medication may reduce the risk of dementia, according to results from a meta-analysis of over 28,000 patients, presented at AAIC 2022.

“Observational studies indicate U-shaped associations between BP and incident dementia in older age,” the researchers noted. However, they also noted that, in randomized controlled trials, antihypertensive treatments have produced mixed results regarding their ability to prevent dementia.
