Lessons learned from operating a mobile unit for clinical trials in AD

Researchers have identified some important successes and challenges as they reflect on a 3-year experience operating a mobile clinical trial unit in Florida.

Faster enrollment is needed for clinical trials of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), according to Dr Amanda Smith and colleagues at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, USA. About 10% of US dementia cases are found in Florida, Dr Smith noted. Many elderly patients live more than 30 minutes from a clinical trial site, and transportation issues can reduce trial participation and increase attrition rates.
